We believe that MUSIC has a special place in our school. We aim to give every child the opportunity to play an instrument, because research has shown over and over that ‘playing a musical instrument’ develops your whole brain in a special way nothing else can!
In the Pre- and Prep School curriculum: The Orff way of teaching music is the prevalent, holistic approach. This means that music is experienced in a natural way, using voice, body percussion, non-melodic percussion instruments (drums, tambourines, claves, castanets, bells, triangles, etc.) as well as melodic instruments specially designed for children (glockenspiels, xylophones, marimbas, hand bells, tubular bells, recorder, etc). Dancing, movement, rhythmical speech patterns, musical games, musical stories, and any child-friendly musical activities are also used in the Prep School.
In College, music can be chosen as a subject from Grade 10 -12.
For extramural activities, we present individual instrumental classes (Pre School, Prep School and College). Children take part in Eisteddfods (Arts festivals, National Eisteddfod) and play international examinations (ABRSM, Trinity, Rock School, Unisa, etc.)
Viva la Musica!
