Christ Church Preparatory School and College Physical Education Lessons

Christ Church Preparatory School and College feels that it is of utmost importance that our pupils stay fit and healthy.  To this end, we have entered various virtual challenges between various schools including Kings College in Bryanston and Hermannsburg School in KZN.  We, as a school, are also ensuring that Physical Education lessons continue.  We ensure that social distancing, the wearing of face masks (except during vigorous exercise as stated by the DBE – where additional distance is placed between pupils) and full sanitisation take place.

It has been proved time and again that exercise is essential for children and young adults in order to ensure a healthy body and state of mind.  Below is an extract from one of many websites explaining the advantages and necessity of Physical Education:

“Research indicates that inactive children are likely to become inactive adults, putting young people at risk of developing life-threatening conditions such as heart disease and cancer. This is why it’s important to encourage exercise and keeping fit from a young age.

“Regular exercise has lots of health benefits for children and young people, such as:

  • Improving fitness
  • providing an opportunity to socialise
  • increasing concentration
  • improving academic scores
  • building a stronger heart, bones and healthier muscles
  • encouraging healthy growth and development
  • improving self-esteem
  • improving posture and balance
  • lowering stress
  • encouraging a better night’s sleep”
